LEE BENNETT HOPKINS POETRY AWARD Established in 1992, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award is presented
annually to an American poet for the most outstanding new book of children's
poetry published in the past calendar year. This prestigious award is
named for Lee Bennett Hopkins, an internationally renowned educator, poet,
anthologist, and passionate advocate of poetry for young people. The Lee
Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award is the only award of its kind in the United
States and is considered a great honor among children’s poets, publishers,
and scholars. Previous winners of the award include poets David Bouchard,
Ashley Bryan, Barbara Juster Esbensen, Douglas Florian, Kristine O’Connell
George, Anna Grossnickle Hines, Angela Johnson, Constance Levy, Naomi
Shihab Nye, Liz Rosenberg, and Nancy Wood. The Penn State College of Education
and University Libraries are now the administrators of the Lee Bennett
Hopkins Poetry Award. ACTIVITIES
